Francis Ford Coppola's Architectural Gem
After walking through Chinatown in San Francisco, I came about a surprisingly familiar intersection where Columbus Avenue meets Kearney Street. I wasn’t sure where I had seen it before, but I guess it was more interesting that way. This intersection struck me as so perfectly structured with it’s oddly colored, thin green building that stuck out amongst the surrounding skyscrapers.
Its front tower slowly twists up pointing into the ominous cloud cover and only partially reveals the usually more prominent Transamerica Pyramid. The Columbus Tower, also called the Sentinel Building, truly was a sight that I knew I had to capture even though I didn’t realize its checkered history of Francis Ford Coppola, Earthquakes and not so honest Abes. I guess I just saw it as a hidden architectural gem that popped out in a sea of skyscrapers.
